Pre-Hockey Classes

The Seven Bridges Beginner Hockey-Dynamites Program is a program developed and ran by Seven Bridges Ice Arena. The program is designed to allow our young players to continually develop to the next level of youth hockey at each appropriate point of the learning cycle and eventually move on to a Youth Hockey Club.  The program will be under the direction of the Midwest's premier hockey training company, Advanced Power Hockey.  The lead instructor will be Willis Griffin.  The mission of this program is to prepare the aspiring hockey player for the elite level of travel hockey, through a three step development program that will; give players a solid foundation of skating skills; offer players proper instructor in puck control; teach players a basic understanding of positioning; finally, offer game-like situations to complete the training experience.  The completion of the Personal Best #3 class marks the end of the development programs. The next step for these young players to continue would be through a Youth Hockey Organization, which usually conducts youth hockey programs for youth players ages six through eighteen.

PRE HOCKEY classes are structured to teach your child the most important individual skill needed to compete in the game of hockey; skating. Pre Hockey offers players the opportunity to learn basic, fundamental skills including: forward skating, backward skating, turning, stopping, crossovers and transitions. Pre Hockey fits the needs of all children who want to play hockey. Pre Hockey is the first step in the development process at Seven Bridges. Children between the age of three and thirteen will enjoy learning or improving their skating skills! Canadian youth hockey has been experimenting with “3 on 3” Pond Hockey for the past 6 years and they have found that it is truly an excellent program for kids of all levels to develop their overall hockey skills. The main reason for this development is the player consistently has the puck on his/her hockey stick and is continuously performing a skating & puck controlling skill.

During the Spring of 1998, we developed the first ever organized “3 on 3” Pond Hockey League in the Chicago area. Five seasons have now passed and we are excited to be recognized by directors within USA Hockey as the finest organized “3 on 3” developing program in Chicagoland’s hockey circles. The 2004 Spring and Summer leagues had over 100 teams participate at Seven Bridges Ice Arena.

“3 ON 3” POND HOCKEY FORMAT

  1. Small rosters with only seven or eight (7- 8) players on each team, six or seven (6-7) skaters & one (1) goalie. (You may roster more players than the recommended number, but keep in mind you want the players to be constantly in the game with minimal rest time) Only 3 skaters at a time for each team on the ice. This format opens up the play and the player is always handling the puck while stick-handling, passing, shooting, scoring, clearing the zone, or stick checking.

  2. The games are 30 minute running time. Every one (1) minute the buzzer sounds for a line change. The players change on the fly which creates the transition speed from the bench to the ice. When performed correctly, the shifts are at a high intensity skate and with as little as two lines it develops the athletes conditioning.

  3. There are no off-sides, no icings, no whistles to stop the continuous flow of the play. As a goal is scored, you pull the puck out of the net and head-man it up as quick as you can, attacking your opponents.

  4. There is no checking allowed! The object is to develop the players technical skills. Any checking will result in a penalty, penalties result in a penalty shot. If the foul is deemed intentional which causes an injury or potential injury the player in fault will be removed from the game. Three removals and the player is out for the remainder of the session.

  5. Because of the wide open play, goalies will be facing a continuous barrage of varied shots. To have several 2 on 1’s, breakaways, shots from the slot or one-timers are always a continued part of the game. Goalies can develop their stick work by moving the puck up to teammates.

  6. Coaches will be allowed on the bench. They are there to help direct the strategies of quick break-outs, head-manning the puck, transitions and several other game situations. As the season advances, coaches are known to step aside and watch the kids develop their own communication and leadership skills.

Chicago Cup Logo

The Chicago Cup Tournament Series through Advanced Tournaments brings 60 to 145 youth hockey teams to the Chicagoland area each month between September and May. Visit www.advancedtournaments.com for more information.

The Nike Bauer International Invite is held each November.  In 2005, the tournament attracted 108 teams from USA, Canada, Russia, and Czech Republic and brought 224 teams from eight countries in 2006!  Visit www.nikebauerinvite.com for more information.

From its modest beginnings in the spring of 2003, the Bresy Chi-Town Shuffle has grown into a tournament of international stature. The tournament was renamed last year in honor of former Chicago Mission coach Tim Breslin.  Tim passed away suddenly on February 9, 2005 after a short bout with cancer.  Tim’s passing stunned his family and friends, not only because he was so young and vital, but because he had been the consummate professional athlete and seemed to be responding well to his treatments.

The World Class Hockey organization takes multiple teams to participate in European tournaments each spring.  Visit www.worldclass-hockey.com to register as a team or individual today!
